| All of these were made using true dyes. That is, 1TBLS per 1 cup water each of turquoise, fuschia, and yellow (Dharma.) Each of the 1 gallon containers were filled with 2 cups soda ash solution, then the true fuschia, turquoise and yellow each got 4tablespoons of dye solution. All of the secondary colors were created using 2 tbls of primary colors each, so green = 2tbsp turquoise + 2 tbsp yellow. "orange" was made likewise with fuschia and yellow, and then purple using turquoise/fuschia. Each of the dyes were dumped straight into the buckets with no premixing before fabric went in. I didn't care for the natural Quilter's Only or the Ecology fabric, but they did get slightly deeper colors. | |
Fuschia, "dump" color (all of the remaining dye put in bucket and 3 fatquarters put in.) and turquoise.
Yellow, Green, Coral/orange (very pretty coral look) and purple
Can we say ugly?! This it put a fat quarter in container and scrunched it up to the peaks and valleys as crystal described. I then used squeeze bottle and squeezed fuschia and turquoise on the prewet fabric This is the ugliest piece I have done yet.
These turned out much better. The first orange was done using the same technique as above. Turned out pretty well but got a few white spots that didn't get dye.The green and other orange-red version were created spraying turquoise/fuschia (not each, but turq. on one, fuschia on the other) dye with spray bottle onto presoaked and predampened, white fabric. Then, I used the same squeeze bottles to dribble yellow on the fabric. I think they turned out pretty nicely.
